Should I Really Sleep in My Mineral Makeup?
The jury is still out on this one. Some dermatologists have gone so far as to say that if you suffer from serious skin irritations like acne, rosacea or eczema then wearing mineral makeup to bed does have the potential to continue to ease these problems as you sleep. This depends largely on the severity of your skin problem, and as a general rule it is better to sleep with a completely makeup free face rather than leaving your makeup on. You should consult a dermatologist for your specific skin condition and evaluate every component of your mineral makeup before making this decision. It is certainly safe to say, however, that if you do sleep in your makeup, your skin will benefit the most from sleeping in an all natural, mineral formula rather than a pore-clogging mask – what most makeups actually are.
What Types of Mineral Makeup are Available to Me?
You can buy almost any type of makeup in a mineral makeup form. However, read the ingredients carefully. Any product that contains mostly minerals can legally bill itself as a mineral makeup, and lots of companies are taking advantage of all the hype in just this way. Many companies offer samples and we suggest starter kits, like the one available from Purity by Mineral Science.
Look for products that contain only all natural minerals when you are buying mineral makeup. The most popular types are loose powder and blush, both of which are applied with a large, fluffy brush and literally buff away the years as they are applied.
Since these types also provide the most coverage on your face, they are definitely the place to start if you want to try mineral makeup for the first time as you will get the maximum benefits from a full-coverage product rather than something like eye shadow or a lip balm. Once you experience the incredible performance of these products though, you will likely have to have them all.
